Things that made me happy this week:

A week of milestones and it’s only Wednesday.

Max is at his first college class tonight. It’s something like How to Do College 101. He’s excited and a little nervous. The perfect space. He changed shirts three times (that I saw) and is wearing pants instead of baggy shorts. And he charged up his ChromeBook and remembered to take it. Giant steps.

Ruby and I went to an Open House at her new school. In Plano, 9th and 10th grades are in a building and 11th and 12th grades are at another campus, combining two sets of the earlier grades. So a giant campus with lots of special programs. Ruby’s excited to go there and has picked out some interesting electives and requested some AP or dual credit courses. She has really turned things around for herself.

I’m going to be 79 next month. Twelve years ago, a few months after I graduated from seminary, I started looking after my son’s kids and next month marks five years that I’ve been with the Soto set. Not at all what I envisioned for my 60s and 70s, but there it is. It’s been an astonishing part of my life. And a perfect fit for everything that went before. Who knew I was going to be That grandma?

And you? What’s making you happy these days? I’d love to hear about it.

Keep going.
