May 1, 2022. Sunday.

Five things that made me happy today:

1. Church was really something. The end of a long theme year (Cherish) and the beginning of the summer season. An announcement of an incoming contract minister next year while the board completes a search for a permanent staff member. Some Climate Action action in the courtyard, including free native plants. Etc. A diverse Sunday with a knock out of a sermon.

2. Another beautiful, balmy spring day. My house has lots of windows and I love a bright day.

3. A sad scene on the way to church this morning: Two black bellied whistling ducks had been hit and killed on the road. Recognized by their bright orange feet. I went back later to pick them up but the traffic was too heavy. I shyly called Plano Animal Services who answered the phone on a Sunday and I asked them if they would get their little bodies. The woman who answered the phone was so kind and matter-of-fact. Of course, they would do that she said. We’ll dispatch someone right now.

About ten minutes later she called me to verify the directions, so I feel confident it was handled. I love black bellied whistling ducks. They are common in Texas but not often in Plano. Apparently they were in the wrong place at the wrong time early this morning!

4. A really lazy nap.

5. An early morning re-planting of the Mexican petunias I got from a neighbor. We’ll see how they do. She and another friend have offered me some more of their native plants and I’ve decided to plant them in clumps in my front yard bed.

Your turn! What made you happy today? Or any day?

Keep going.
