Five things that made me happy today:

1. The crows came in threes this morning and sat on my side fence, calling at me inside at the kitchen table. They are quite insistent. The three of them stayed lined up for several minutes. I got the instructions!

2. Opening Ruby’s birthday gifts from family and friends this afternoon. Thanks to all who sent cards. She was delighted and surprised to get birthday cards in the mail.

3. Homemade tamales. (Not my home.) Really. It’s Texas and it’s Christmas Eve.

4. My second (original) Christmas cactus is working her way up to blooming. I put the profligate one next to her and she’s inspired now. I should probably just make this end of my kitchen into plant city and forget any other activity. All my plants love the light here on the northwest corner of the house.

5. Wonderful scheduled conversations today and a rogue incoming from one of my co-authors. Boy, can we find things to talk about.
